Trouble Connecting your Instagram Account?

Occasionally Instagram will disconnect your Instagram account from for security purposes. When you connect your Instagram account back to you may encounter this error:


 {"error_type": "OAuthException", "code": 400, "error_message": "Cannot access app due to app restrictions"}


Here are a few steps that can hopefully get your Instagram successfully connected to

1) Check that you have the Age set in your Instagram account.

  1. Go to your profile in the Instagram App.
  2. Tap Edit Profile.
  3. Tap Personal Information.
  4. Tap Birthday and enter your date of birth or tap Update on Facebook.

2) If you don't see the Birthdate, check that you have your Facebook account linked to Instagram by doing the following:

  1. Go to your profile in the Instagram App and tap your profile image (bottom right)
  2. Tap the menu in the top right (3 lines) and select Settings.
  3. Tap Account > Linked Accounts, then select Facebook.
  4. If you haven't already, enter your Facebook login information

3) If Facebook Is already connected, you can make sure your birthdate is set by following the instructions here:
If your birthdate is already set on Facebook and you are still unable to connect then please try step 4 below.

4) Connect using the Graph API connection. This will require you to have a Business Instagram account.  

  1. If you haven't already done so, convert your Instagram account profile into a Business Profile instead of personal one. Instagram does not charge anything to do this.
  2. Then link your Instagram Business Account to by clicking here. You will be prompted to authenticate via Facebook and asked to give permission to access your Instagram photos, and then you will be prompted to select which of your Instagram Accounts to link to.

**  In this 4th step, your Facebook Account may need to have permissions set in order to be able to manage your Business Instagram account. In that case, please see the following for instructions on how to manage permissions for Facebook roles here.
